30th Edition of BECE starts today across the country
The 2020 BECE starts today and it will mark the 30th edition of the Basic Education Certificate Examination BECE since 1990. Students will commence the 2020 BECE across the country in various examination centres. The examination which has been organized in May/June each year is taken place in September as a result of the coronavirus. The examination is expected to end on Friday 18th September 2020.
In the last five years, Greater Accra, Eastern and Central regions have presented the highest number of candidates for the examination.
TThe 2020 BECE starts today with the usual English language and Religious and Moral education papers. However, students throughout the examination will not have breaks in between paper 2 and 1 dues to the COVID-19.
About 584,000 pupils final year students from both public and private Junior High School (JHS) students will write the examination.
When the results are released the Ghana Education Service (GES) will use it to select qualified candidates for senior high schools (SHSs) and Technical Institutes (TIs) across the country.
Before the start of the 2020 BECE, the GES has sent a strong warning to candidates ahead of the first BECE paper. It has cautioned candidates writing the upcoming Basic Education Certificate Examinations to refrain from cheating in the exam.
This comes after several cases of exam misconduct were recorded during the just-ended West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination.
In a press release by GES copied to edulearnweb.com, it said: “We wish to remind all candidates, invigilators, and supervisors to appreciate the fact that the basis of success in life is honesty and hard work and therefore urges all candidates and stakeholders to eschew all forms of examination malpractices during the period.

Upon completion of their exams, the candidates will commence the school selection phases on 21st September. Since the school selection will be done after the examination, it would afford candidates the opportunity to make careful choices based on their own predicted grades.
Whiles the GES cautions candidates to comport themselves, it is important that the same caution goes to WAEC and its officers at the council to ensure they do not leak examination questions from their strong room.
