5 reasons why 2020 BECE Graduates with “BAD” Grades should not fear SHS placement
We present to you 5 reasons why 2020 BECE graduates who score “BAD” Grades should not fear Free SHS placement. 2020 BECE graduates are to start selecting schools from 21st September 2020. We advise that students are guided by teachers and parents to select schools based on their predicted performance in the just-ended BECE.
The Computerized School Selection & Placement System (CSSP) has come to stay just as the Free SHS which is intended to increase access to secondary education and remove financial conscience which used to be a hindrance to many students.
But attempting to choose schools that are high and above your sincerely predicted grades or projected results will create problems. When selecting schools, do not choose based on your preference without giving attention to your academic strength.
The fear however of many students when it comes to school selection is that they will not be admitted into Senior High School. The truth of the matter is that that is possible, but not always true. The 2020 School Placement is a few months away now that BECE is over.

The reasons why all candidates who sat for the 2020 BECE will be placed or allowed to enjoy free SHS are as follows.
1. Free SHS is not discriminatory in the sense that the government believes that BECE should not be the end of schooling for any student after completing his or her Basic education. This simply implies the 2020 School Placement will ensure that candidates who score above aggregate 25 will also be given the chance to enjoy Senior High School Education.
2. The second reason why every BECE sitter will gain admission into Senior High School during the 2020 School Placement is that, the new school placement system called The Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS permits students to be placed in schools based on their raw score and not the grades they obtained.
Thus the sum of the actual scores a BECE certificate holder obtained summing up (English, Social Studies, Mathematics, Integrated Science) and any other two best subjects are used. The graded approach is not as friendly as the raw score approach which the current system is using.
3. Again, there are enough schools to get students placed when the school placement is completed. Those who do not get automatic placement would be usually given a second chance to do what is called Self Placement. What it means is that, if a student is not placed but is given the option, he or she must go online to the school placement portal and select a school.
4. Furthermore, the government of Ghana is ensuring that every child of school-going age is giving an opportunity to at least complete SHS. The 2020 School Placement will therefore not prevent any candidate from continuing his or her education at the Secondary school level.
5. Finally, the Ghana Education Service has announced on countless occasions that there will not be any cut-off point for entry into SHS. This means that all candidates have an equal opportunity to be placed in one school or the other when the Ghana Education Service completes the placement.
Students are encouraged and assured to put away the fear of not getting placed. The excitement with which students came out of the exams after the last paper may be a sign that it all went well in the exams.
The days of cut-off the point are in the past. Until GES decides otherwise. No student will be left behind unless some other issues crop up.
Free SHS placement is possible if the right choices are made for students. However, it is not likely that students will not be placed unless they obtain grade 9 in Mathematics or Integrated Science.
