Cost of Teachers Mate 1 Laptop contested and debunked by MoE
Ghana Education News | The cost of Teachers Mate 1 Laptop is being contested, proven, and disproved as the battle of prices rages on between the Ministry of Education, Teacher Unions, and teachers
Less than 24 hours after the launch of the One Teacher One Laptop, the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) in a letter sighted by Ghanaeducation.org stated that the cost of Teachers Mate 1 Laptop was GH¢1831.47 and that teachers will pay GHS549.44 (30%).
However, the Ministry of Education has debunked the content and position of NAGRAT and has indicated that the 100% cost of the Teachers Mate 1 Laptop is GHS1550.00.
Teachers and the general public are getting worried about what the actual cost of the laptop is as there are rumours in the grapevine that the cost has been inflated and that teachers are paying nearly the full cost of the laptops if they pay their 30% portion of the total cost of the laptop announced.
In an interview granted by Hon Fordjour, the Deputy Minister of Education, with Umaru Sanda Amadu of Citi FM, he confirmed the cost of the Teachers Mate 1 Laptop is GHS1550.00 and not GH¢1831.47.
Below is the letter issued by NAGRAT and signed by Mr. Angel Carbonu.
During the launch of the One Teacher One Laptop initiative, the Vice President of Ghana, Dr Baumia disclosed that the move by the government to resource teachers with the laptops will bring to finality the old fashioned handwritten notes and move to the scripted lesson plans provided by the NaCCA which will lessen the burden of teachers.
This means the GES would have no excuse for not accepting soft copies of lesson notes and the Lesson Plan “FIGHTS” among headteachers, teachers, SISOs are expected to be a thing of the past.

Once this is fully rolled out teachers will have adequate time to prepare and do more research on the methods and contents of what they will teach rather than spending the entire weekend writing lesson notes into the teacher’s notebook for every week’s lesson.
