Double-Track Academic Calendar to hit Colleges of Education 2020/21 Academic Year
Information reaching Edulearnweb is that come 2020/2021 academic year, Colleges of Education will run a shift system that has become known as Double-Track in Ghana’s education landscape over the last four years.
The system to be run by the public Colleges of Education is to enable the colleges to admit more qualified candidates who will exit the Senior High School after their WASSCE 2020.
This worrying development was contained in a report released at the August 2020 Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PrinCoF) held at Koforidua in the Eastern Region.

The government directive per the report showed that all level 400 and level 100 students should report to school for 6 weeks while the levels 300 and 200 remain at home.
They arrived this decision at because the facilities are not enough such as Lecture Halls and dormitory spaces to accommodate the huge numbers expected.
This is another obvious example of the lack of proactiveness by the government. We have failed as a nation to see the multiplier effect of the Free SHS on tertiary education broadly.
Our education sector is wabbling, graduates to be churned out by the Free SHS will face serious challenges if we do not take care.
The Colleges of Education Double-Track system will changeover after the Sixth Week to permit the Level 300 and 200 students to begin their First Semester of the 2020/21 Academic Year.
This new system as a measure to deal with the lack of facilities is affected by the effect should the colleges reopen the school in November for the First Semester of the 2020/21 Academic Year.
The Free SHS students from 2016 will have questions to ask the leadership of this nation if their academic work is jeopardized and continuously sacrificed for ill-planned and reactive political decisions that cannot solve root problems in the education sector.
The government should have expanded the infrastructures of the public Colleges of Education or converted some of the Mahama led government community day schools to colleges of education by building additional facilities to bring them to the status that permits them to be used.
