Reopening schools in January 2021 unacceptable
In its view, (GNAPS) said the 10 months break in education (March-December 2021) would shut down the development of young minds in the country.

It called on the government to reconsider its decision and plan to reopen schools before or on October 5th, 2020.
The association further argued that the decision to keep schools closed till January 2021 cannot be because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the union, all sectors of the economy have are bouncing back into full operation and it does comprehend the reasons behind the decision of the government to keep schools closed.
(GNAPS) furthered that the decision amounts to infringing on the rights of the child to education.
Nearly two weeks after the Ministry of Education led by Hon. Matthew Opoku Prempeh constituted a committee on the reopening of schools, government out of the blue came out with timelines for the reopening of schools when the committee is yet to submit its reports on September 21st, 2020.
The association questioned why the government could not wait for the committee to complete its work and submit its recommendations before the government took the decision not to reopen schools until January 2021.
The Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS) believes the move is not right and the president’s statement that stakeholders were consulted to arrive at the education-related decisions announced in the 16th National address does not reflect the views of stakeholders.
“One wonders which stakeholders were consulted in arriving at this decision. For records, as part of the work of the Committee tasked to propose modalities for reopening schools, GES wrote to GNAPS seeking the Association’s inputs on, among other things, a date for resumption of schools.” (GNAPS) indicated in the press release.
According to (GNAPS), it was given up to 3rd September to present its proposal on how and when schools should be reopened. But before several days before the elapse of the deadline, the timelines on the resumption of schools were announced by the president.
