UCC Must Come Again: Teachers lament over GHS2000 per semester for UCC 1 Year Top Up
The cost of education is high, and this is common knowledge but teachers who have who hold a Diploma in Education say the UCC 1 Year Top-up is too expensive
Teachers who have been eyeing the 3-Semester BACHELOR OF EDUCATION (POST-DIPLOMA) IN PRIMARY EDUCATION (SANDWICH) Programme of the University of Cape Coast are shocked by the fees they are supposed to raise within two weeks to complete the registration process for the UCC 1 Year Top-up
UCC 1 Year Top-Up fees
In the admission letter of the University of Cape Coast sighted by the Edulearnweb.com

Apart from teachers complaining the fee per semester is high, they feel the short period within which they have to raise the amount is rather short.
Teachers are calling on the University of Cape Coast to reconsider the amount or come out with a payment plan for each semester that permits applicants who have gained admission to make each semester’s fee payment in two installments to lessen the financial burden.
It seems the 3-Semester BACHELOR OF EDUCATION (POST-DIPLOMA) IN PRIMARY EDUCATION (SANDWICH) Programme excitement has been stagnated by the fee of GHS2000 per semester.
The reaction of teachers sampled on teachers’ platforms on social media does suggest that the University of Cape Coast is known for charging high fees.
Teachers with Diploma in Education who want to upgrade themselves to meet the minimum requirements for teaching in Ghana in 2022 must pay GHS6000 in 12 months if they are to secure a degree from the UCC through the Sandwich programme.
If nothing is done about this high fee being charged, many teachers who want to meet the requirement may not be able to start the programme soon.
There are trained teachers who have not been posted and are at home or doing their national service, such as the 2020 batch. The question they are asking is how are they going to raise the GHS2000.00 to pay for the admission process?
The Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, and other stakeholders must come to the aid of teachers now. The University of Cape Coast is not a private tertiary institution to be charging GHS6000.00 for a one-year program. Public institutions are required to provide services at a lower cost so that ordinary citizens can afford them. The UCC is not different and must reconsider its school fees. Private Tertiary Institutions are giving both continuing and new students discounts during this pandemic era, the government has called on the University of Ghana and other public interests to revise their increased school fees. the call from teachers who want to take advantage of the UCC 1 year top-up are therefore calling on the government to step in.
It is important that other teacher education centered public universities like UEW are also permitted to offer the same programme to break what looks like a monopoly power of the UCC. This should bring competition and also lead to a reduction in tuition fees.
