UEW Kumasi campus to be converted into Univ. of Skill Training
The University of Education Winneba satellite campus in Kumasi will be upgraded into the University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development per the plans of the government.
The process aimed at realizing this has already started and when completed will afford UEW the sole mandate to provide training for Ghana pre-tertiary education manpower needs.
The Bill to help achieve the conversion of the UEW Kumasi campus has been laid before parliament for the Second Reading.

Professor Kwasi Yankah who is the Minister of State in-charge of Tertiary Education alluded that, when the campus is converted, it will serve as a centre that equips Ghana’s teachers with all the professional and entrepreneurial skills they need to make them more versatile.
Professor Kwasi Yankah said the University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development
“Will bring into focus the relevance of technical and vocational training to national development and the need to achieve national development in that regard”.
The new university will be developed to the highest status possible so that it can award Doctorate Degrees in technical and vocational training.
This is expected to provide its graduates with the skills that are relevant to the job market and industry.
“This will undoubtedly increase productivity, encourage investment as well, reduce unemployment, and improve the socio-economic sector of the country,” he added.
Ghana’s education sector continues to see huge investments in infrastructure, manpower development, and resourcing yet more need to be done to ensure the full benefit of the investments in the education sector is realized.

The government has already injected huge capital in Free SHS at the pre-tertiary level and continue to expand access to education through massive infrastructure development that took off in the previous government.
The new university will add to the already exists public tertiary institutions in the country, which will create more space for graduates from the first batch of Free SHS.
