We are tired of Government’s oblivious attitude to our hardships – Private school workers
The Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS) has convinced that the government is not concerned about the wellbeing of staff of private schools and the leadership of the nation is oblivious to the hardships of private school workers.
These were contained in the press release of the association after the government’s announcement of January 2021 as the time for reopening of all Pre-Tertiary schools (KG-SHS1).
The association through a key stakeholder was sidelined in the making of the decision. Workers in private schools have suffered the harshest effects of the COVID-19 without any assistance from the government. Most of these private school workers have gone 6 months without salaries since schools have been closed.
The government failed to have empathy for the large number of workers who are employed in such schools at all levels of education.

In spite of incessant pleas to the government to support such workers who have contributed immensely to education in the country, creation of jobs, payment of taxes, and others, the government failed to put in place measures to help deal with the economic impact of the COVID-19 and its associated challenges.
The association said it cannot close the lid on the pent-up frustration of its members and they will provide legitimate support to any actions embarked on by private school workers to draw attention and the needed response to the plight of its suffering members.

According to the association, the government’s decision to reopen schools in January 2021 will only prove catastrophic to education in the country.
It further called on well-meaning Ghanaians to rise up and speak against the decision of the government. Will the government act differently after nearly 6 months of no empathy for private school teaching and non-teaching staff?
