3 Nollywood Stars That Were Announced Dead In The Last 24hrs
The deaths of three prominent actors in Nigeria’s film and television industries have been reported within the past day.
The recent deaths of Murphy Afolabi, Saint Obi, and Adedigba Mukail have taken a toll on Nigeria’s acting community.
Murphy Afolabi
Murphy Afolabi’s untimely death was reported a few hours ago. The death of the Yoruba actor was announced early on the morning of May 14 by a post on the Instagram page of his colleague, Tunde Ola Yusuf. He wished the actor a peaceful afterlife and bade him farewell. Murphy Afolabi was a powerful filmmaker, and we lost him. Until we meet again, bro. According to reports, a fall in his restroom was the cause of the Yoruba film star’s demise. A week ago, on May 5, he would have turned 49 years old.
Obinna Nwafor
Actor Obinna Nwafor, well known on stage as Saint Obi passed away on Saturday evening, May 13. The tragic event reportedly took place around a week before the Monday, May 7, 2023, announcement. After spending months going to the hospital for treatment of an unknown disease, he passed away. Blogger Moji Delano claims that on Monday, a source told him that the actor he had seen a few times and recognized as Saint Obi had died on Sunday, and his body had been brought to the mortuary at Jos University Teaching Hospital, JUTH. This occurred after he went to see his sister in Jos.
St. Obi has reportedly moved in with his sister in Jos, the state capital of Plateau, and has been seen frequently being taken to the hospital. An insider at JUTH also confirmed Mr. Obi’s regular visits there. No official announcement has been issued as of yet, and it appears that Mrs. Felicia Jofu, Saint Obi’s sister, is keeping news regarding his death under wraps on purpose. It’s unclear if he’s still in touch with his ex-wife, Lydia. Before his untimely death, the actor from Imo had appeared in more than a hundred films.
Adedigba Mukaila
Adedigba Mukaila, better known by his stage name Alafin Oro, passed away only a few hours before the news of Saint Obi’s death was released. According to reports, the actor who was most known for his roles in Yoruba cinema passed away in the wee hours of Saturday, May 13. On his Instagram, Kunle Afod posted pictures of the deceased and wrote that the news of his passing would be devastating for the entire company.
Veteran actor Yinka Quadri has also confirmed the news, adding his prayers that Alafin Oro may rest in peace. Funke Etti, Kemi Afolabi, and other actresses also left messages of condolence below.
