There have been calls for WAEC to Make BECE & WASSCE results checking free in the last three years however Africa Education Watch (EduWatch) has made the call again as WAEC gets ready to release the 2022 results
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has been petitioned by Africa Education Watch (EduWatch) to make BECE and WASSCE results checking free for participant candidates of the national and international examinations
The Education think tank appeal comes after the management of the Council last year said Junior and Senior High School students who sat for the BECE or WASSCE can request their results via SMS for a fixed amount of GHC6.00.
In a blog post sighted by AcademicWeek.com, the not-for-profit-making organization indicated that BECE or WASSCE for School candidates alternatively can purchase the WAEC result checker card by dialling the short code *944#.
“The Council has hosted the results online and candidates who so desire, may access their results at the Council’s website or dial the shortcode *944#,” the institution stated in the blog post after releasing the 2021 WASSCE results.
But, describing the current system where students purchase results cards to check their results as unfair, EduWatch has urged WAEC to make results checking free and not to use that as another business to extort monies from candidates.
