2020 WASSCE result date and scripts marking starting dates – WAEC
The 2020 WASSCE scripts marking will start starts 3 weeks after exams according to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
Leakage of contacts of examiners
In a live Facebook interaction, the Head of National Examination of WAEC, Mr Ben K. Owusu revealed that, the West African Examinations Council will 21 days after the examination commence marking of the WASSCE scripts.
(WAEC) made this announcement after the reported leakage of contacts of examiners on social media over the week. The unfortunate leakage led to public uproar as candidates, and other stakeholders feared the outcome of the scripts marked will be affected.
WAEC since the reported leakage of contacts of examiners on social media has confirmed the incident but has allayed the fears of the general public. The council said the leakage was an unintentional incident and that it will not in any way compromise the marking of scripts.
2020 WASSCE result releaing time table
A national marking timetable is to be drawn for the marking of the 2020 WASSCE scripts by chief examiners from the five-member countries. There will be a timetable will for each of the five countries. This was disclosed by Mr Ben Owusu.
He added that at the next International prelim coordination meetings, the duration of the marking as well as the date for the release of the results for the WASSCE 2020 for school candidates will be determined. Stakeholders expected the 2020 WASSCE result to be released 45 days after the examination, but per the new arrangement one cannot tell until the date is released.
While responding to a question as to if the unintentional leak of the Examiners contact details will affect the marking, the Head of National Examination of WAEC, Mr Ben K. Owusu said
“I don’t think it will affect the marking of candidates scripts, because our mechanism in the process is such that scripts after the examination are swapped across the 16 regions”
According to him, knowing the contacts of an examiner does not mean you can tell the scripts he or she will be assigned to mark and the school the scripts are coming from.
In his own words, he said
“the mere fact of knowing an Examiner contact details doesn’t mean that you will actually know the school’s scripts that Examiner would be marking… so I don’t think it will affect the fairness of the process”.
The West African Examinations Council has a mechanism in place which helps to protect the identity of scripts s school names are not labeled on packs that contain the scripts. For this and other reasons “the packet you will not be able to identify whether this packet is for this or that particular school, meaning that the packets are completely anonymous”, Mr George Mantey indicated.
In a related development, Africa Education Watch and minority in parliament have called on the WAEC to cancel the leaked papers taken by the students. WAEC is yet to make any official statements as it is currently investigating the issue.
