Opinion: California Legislature does yet another favor for investor-owned utilities
Irony? Just in time for Earth Day, the California Legislature squashed a bill to crack down on lobbying by investor-owned utilities at the cost of ratepayers. Like our rates aren’t high enough without funding lobbyists?
Let’s hope the the California Public Utilities Commission investigates how SDG&E is paying for the political action committee it’s created to oppose the movement for public power. Or that the CPUC wonders how SDG&E funded groups to hijack the county Democratic Central Committee, packing it with politicians beholden to building trade unions which oppose the switch from SDG&E. Anyone who thinks SDG&E is supportive of distributed renewable energy hasn’t noticed its lobbying efforts to disincentivize rooftop solar, which cuts into its profits.
Free pass for ratepayer-funded lobbyists? Thanks, California Legislature. Happy Earth Day.
