Dr. Nathaniel Nii Cudjoe, the University of Cape Coast’s top graduating medical student and one of the 55th congregation’s sixteen awardees, reflects on his decision to enroll in college in 2015, immediately following his graduation from high school. After receiving seven As and two Bs on the West African Senior School Certificate Exams, Dr. Nathaniel Nii Cudjoe revealed that he applied to the University of Ghana-Legon, the country’s premier university, to study medicine. He reported that he was accepted to the university but not into his preferred major.
He claims that because he received a B in English, the University of Ghana only offered him a Bachelor of Pharmacy program rather than a Medical degree. He spent a year at the University of Ghana studying pharmacy before transferring to the University of Cape Coast to earn his medical degree.
He claimed that he maintained some social ties despite his heavy course load. He said that he was always inside, playing games with his friends. He advised young people who want to achieve greatness and emulate him to make a conscious decision from the outset to focus on a specific result. The parents of this young man would indeed be proud of their son. He has proven that he deserves to grab 16 awards. Many Ghanaians could not stop talking about this young man.
See some online reactions
Joy: Do we, as Ghanaians, see the foolishness of our leaders in their positions today? Some of them even entered universities with Ds AND Es. It is common knowledge that some schools with connections at WAEC cheat, and some don’t deserve some programs at the universities but are there. How can a student be denied a program because of their grade and be offered the same program with a fee? That nonsense at our universities must stop.
Charles: YOU DON’T HAVE EVIDENCE…STOP IT… CERTAIN SCHOOLS WITH CONNECTIONS AT WAEC… HEAR SAY… YOU DON’T EVEN UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT OF FEE PAYING WHICH UNIVERSITY DID YOU ATTEND????
Peter: What has a B in English got to do with a medicine program? These are some of the issues that must be addressed.
Davies: GHANAS STANDARDS OF UNIVERSITY CUT OFF POINTS IS TOO COMPETITIVE…HENCE THE FEE-PAYING WINDOW. It’s not easy.
