The Ghana Education Service (GES) after it reported allegations of corruption and bribery in the 2021 school placement to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation and has been asked to publish a report on the probe.
Mr Kofi Asare, the Executive Director of Africa Education Watch (EduWatch) who made the request in a post sighted by EducationWeb said it for over five weeks the security agency has begun the probe but no update has been given
“Dear Ghana Education Service (GES) and Ghana Police Service (GPS) kindly update us on this very important issue. It’s past five weeks now,” the Education policy analyst and farmer said on social media on Wednesday.
The EduWatch Director’s comment comes after GES following bribery allegations levelled against some officials of the Ministry of Education, CSSPS and Free SHS Secretariat in the SHS placement called for a probe in the matter.
In a letter to the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) sighted by EducationWeb, the management of GES said some parents have reported a series of corruption in the school placement which needs to be probed immediately.
“There have been a series of allegations of corruption associated with the exercise with some parents and the public claiming that some unscrupulous persons are collecting monies and effecting changes in the placement exercise
In some instances, fingers have been pointed at top officials of the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service/Computerized School Selection and Placement System and the Free SHS Secretariat,” GES told NIB.
The letter signed by the Director-General of GES added “management of Ghana Education Service will be grateful if your office could launch a full-scale investigation into these allegations to establish their authenticity or otherwise.”
In response to the Ghana Education Service (GES) Director-General’s letter, the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) commenced the investigations into the 2021 SHS placement bribery allegations in mid-April 2022
