Ichinose Set Free – Classroom of the Elite S3 Ep 5 Review – In Asian Spaces
Ayanokoji manages to save Ichinose after Sakayanagi exposes her secret. Kushida teams up with an unlikely ally in clandestine meetings.
Okay so Sakayanagi used Hashimoto and Kamuro to troll Ayanokoji, and Ayanokoji allowed it and saved Ichinose in order to troll Kushida. All the while, Kushida is blissfully unaware that she is still the court jester.

Ichinose’s Criminal Past
Okay call me crazy here, but I feel like Sakayanagi overplayed her hand regarding Ichinose’s past. It became clear after a certain point during Ichinose’s speech to her class that they didn’t care what she had done, because at the end of the day, Ichinose is a good person.
You can tell how much thought, care, and effort Ichinose takes to be a good person and develop Class B further. Sure, “stealing is wrong” and all of that jazz but honestly – almost $300 for an idol pin seems a bit more criminal to me. That is absolutely consumer theft and exploitation of the tween girls who want to look like their idol and the old perverts who want to…spend intimate time with the pin.
I guess it would make sense that Ichinose was self-isolating in her dorm room and that Ayanokoji purposefully was bringing her soup and sitting with her while waiting to ‘crack’ her facade. Although it is cruel and it seems like Ayanokoji didn’t want to do it given the way he spoke about it to Sakayanagi, I’m glad Ichinose was able to successfully build herself up after being broken down so severely.
Plus – that sort of leverage won’t work on her anymore, so Ichinose has overcome at least that format of blackmail thanks to Sakayanagi and Ayanokoji. If anything, it seems like Ichinose reflected positively on the incident since she gave Ayanokoji some delayed Valentine’s Day chocolates to express her feelings of gratitude.
Although it is messed up, I guess all’s well that ends well, right?
Ayanokoji Playing Both Sides
Like any good master manipulator, it seems like Ayanokoji is playing both sides of the warring factions for maximum personal benefit. His true intention is still to flush Kushida out and expose who she really is – which I am 100% okay with.
Honestly, I guess Horikita continually trying to be Kushida’s friend and showing her kindness is the perfect foil for Ayanokoji’s true methods, since on the surface it just seems like Ayanokoji is tolerating Kushida based on her extensive knowledge of the student body. Using points for her silence, I don’t think Kushida will fully expect whatever methods Ayanokoji uses to get her expelled.
I mean, just tying it all together – Sakayanagi kind of helped Ayanokoji out in a way by being the patsy for the rumor-spreading. Although it was ultimately Ayanokoji and the Vice President of the Student Council who did the perpetrating and exposed the secrets of Year 1 students, because the teachers and faculty stepped in no other rumors can be spread without reprimand or expulsion.
And just think…Kushida’s main power comes from spreading rumors and gossip.
So in a way, Kushida has been partially neutralized and she doesn’t even know it. Since she’s getting points from Ayanokoji in exchange for intel, why would she care about exposing the class secrets when she currently has a good deal that benefits her more than going scorched earth?
It should be very interesting to see how this all plays out, but for now I’m going to leave this one here.
Tell me your thoughts – Did Ayanokoji partially checkmate Kushida without her even realizing? Will he take this rivalry with Sakayanagi seriously? And…did you feel bad about how little screentime Airi has been getting?
