Know Your ABCs of Influence — Lionesses of Africa
by Laura Camacho, PhD
Influence is a skill set, not just reserved for the big shots. What to focus on is being memorable for the value you add to the conversation. Welcome to the ABCs of Influence, with the specific details that make a difference in the art of influence.
A – Attitude and Attire
Think of Trusted Advisor attitude as your butler who opens the door and attire as a memory aid for your audience! A Trusted Advisor attitude is like a magnet, attracting decision makers and inspiring others with your solid recommendations. And don’t underestimate the power of your appearance. To make an impressive impression dress a little bit better than your audience.
B – Body Language
Picture this: you’re speaking the language of the body, and it’s all about friendly and confident vibes! From your smile to your confident posture, if you only focus on one thing in your body vocabulary, make it to stand up straight or sit up straight if on a virtual meeting. Also in virtual meetings, make sure people see more than just your head. Take up space on that screen!
C – Content
Not many people appreciate how well-structured polished content raises your inner confidence. If nothing else, use the “Rule of 3” and frame your suggestions or comments into 3 categories. Make sure you number them 1, 2, 3. That helps your audience remember (which is essential for influence).
D – Delivery
It’s showtime, folks! Whether you’re a smooth talker or an awkward presenter, how you deliver your message determines how it’s received and perceived. You’ve got to make your message, even if it’s a monthly review, compelling and interesting!
So there you have it, the ABCs of Influence served with a side of pizzazz! Get out there, work your magic, and remember, with a sprinkle of Trusted Advisor attitude, a well-structured message, and your authentic personality, and let me know what happens!
