The move is to give qualified students the chance to access government financial support. This is under the leadership of the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat.
The Scholarship Secretariat made this known during the press briefing monitored by GhanaEducation.Org.
The local scholarship for Ghanaians is targeted at graduates of the Free SHS whose results were released by WAEC on November 12, 2020.

Students in both public and private tertiary institutions will benefit from the scholarship.
On the issue of sustainability, the Scholarship Secretariat said, it depended on the government in power. According to the Secretariat, it is sustainable under the leadership of President Nana Akuffo Addo.
Records revealed by the Scholarship Secretariat showed that, in 2017, some 350 students were awarded scholarships. This number went up to 9500 local scholarships, while some 29000 local tertiary students were awarded scholarships to study in universities across the country.
He estimated that about 45,000 continuing students in local tertiary institutions will be enjoying scholarships from the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat. Some 11,000 have already been awarded scholarships, he added.
The information released did not however disclose the qualification for the award of the scholarship. However, a check on the portal of the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat indicates that the portal’s main link for registration is not functioning at the time of this publication.
