According to the Deputy Director-General for Quality and Access of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Mr Kwabena Tandoh all students will be promoted when schools resume in January 2021.
Schools across the country had been closed down since March 15 this year following the unexpected outbreak of the global coronavirus pandemic.
President Akufo-Addo in one of his nation’s address directed for students in second-year Junior and Senior High School to return to school on October 5 to complete the 2019/2020 academic year and vacate on December 14, 2020.
Speaking in an interview with Daniel Dadzie on JoyNews, Mr Kwabena Tandoh said all students will be promoted to their respective levels when schools resume in January 2021.
He explained that the automatic promotion has become necessary to avoid a breach of UNICEF’s policy on Right Age Enrollment, where students are enrolled with their right ages.
“The Ghana Education Service (GES) is working UNICEF to push right age enrollment. So, if we do that, we would get a lot of children in the back. so, everybody will be promoted in January 2021”, the GES official stated.
