Take Their ‘Tugyimie’ Rice But Don’t Vote For Them– Mahama Tells Kumawu Voters
The ex-president said that the NPP had influenced voters in the district.
“The NPP is going door to door in the constituency, handing you cups of ‘Tugyimie’ [low-quality rice] to win your support. So the NPP now considers your vote to be worth less than a bowl of Tugyimie [[poor-grade rice]]? When they bring the Tugyimie [low-quality rice], I beg you to please prepare and eat it. But on Tuesday, make it clear that you won’t sell your vote for a bowl of rice. Tuesday is the day of the election. Vote peacefully for Kwasi Amankwaa by turning up in large numbers.”
“Kwasi Amankwa is the second candidate on the ballot. On Tuesday, I expect something significant to take place in Kumawu. He remarked, “We need to change things and change the NPP.”
First place goes to Ernest Yaw Anim of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), second to Kwasi Amankwaa of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and third and fourth to two independent candidates with the same name, Kwaku Duah.
Meanwhile, Kwasi Amoako-Atta, the Minister for Roads and Highways, has denied that the government is trying to sway voters ahead of the upcoming by-election by building the Kumawu roads.
He said that preparations for building the Kumawu internal road and other roads in the constituency had been made long before the death of the former MP, Philip Atta Basoah.
After checking the progress of work on the Kumawu roads, the Minister told the reporters, “Basoah’s passing is only a coincidence; it is unfortunate and regrettable, but everything will be done to honor his name posthumously.“
Mr. Amoako-Atta stated that the current construction was affecting more than just the Kumawu Constituency, including outlying areas such as Juaben, Effiduase, and Asokore. To clarify, he wanted to know if the residents of Juaben, Effiduase, and Asokore counted as part of the Kumawu Constituency or if they would have a say in who would be elected as the next MP for Kumawu. “When the late MP was alive, he had gone to the Paramount Chief on two occasions to inform him about plans to commence the project,” Mr. Amoako-Atta said.
