The Power of Positive self-story telling — Lionesses of Africa

I’ve always been adamant that I don’t like hosting, my sister-in-law suggested that I do this for Christmas last year. Eventually, I agreed, but of course, it was going to be at a restaurant. And I remember her explaining why it wouldn’t work because it also “doesn’t have that family thing”. I felt defeated and said it’s ok, I’ll host at home.
Immediately after making this decision, I started thinking about it positively, and guess what? I started getting so excited about the idea, what I was going to cook, and the setup, and I realised that all the resources I needed to make this happen were already there.
Oh man, I had so much fun, and we had an amazing day. Although this example is about something that might sound insignificant, we tend to do this in our everyday lives and get held hostage by the negative stories we tell ourselves.
What I am suggesting is that we think about the fact that this saying is so true: “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right,”. We need to be very careful, aware, and deliberate about the stories we tell ourselves as they create our realities.
In his book, The Diary of a CEO – Steven Bartlett encourages us never to compromise our self-story as law number seven, and that we must always thrive to tell ourselves positive stories.
What is it that you have been told and you have believed and keep telling yourself over the years which has become a limitation?
Why don’t you try to tell yourself a better story about it? Just try it.
Because I believe you can do anything you put your mind to it!
