COVID-19 infected WASSCE students write exams at isolation centres
- The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has commenced the WASSCE examination
- All final year students who have been infected with COVID-19 will write their WASSCE exams at isolation exam centres.

According to the examining body, the isolation centres are classrooms on various campuses. Candidates who have tested positive for the infamous virus would take the exams away from their colleagues to avoid community spread within the school premises.

This was revealed by Deputy Director for the Ghana Education Service (GES). In an interview with Atinka FM’s, the Deputy Director, Dr Kwabena Tandoh indicated that the GES has liaised with The West African Examination Council (WAEC) to as it where reserve what he termed “isolation examination centres” in Senior High Schools that have COVID-19 cases.
Dr Kwabena Tandoh added that none of the students sitting the WASSCE 2020 will be disadvantaged because they have tested positive. He said although several students who contracted the disease have recovered. the GES was not risking it especially students who contracted the virus asymptomatic and are not in any way showing signs of COVID-19.
According to him, the examining body through a correspondence indicated to the GES that special classrooms to be known as the “isolation examination centres” were to be created by the council for all students who have contracted COVID-19.
Dr Kwabena Tandoh also assured parents that their wards will not in any way be disenfranchised.
“We are working together with the health experts and we assure all parents that no students will be disenfranchised as a result of coronavirus,” the Deputy Director of Ghana Education Service (GES) explained.
In his interview, he further requested that parents whose ward’s have tested positive should be patient with the GES and WAEC.
Ghana’s COVID-19 case count is heading toward the 40,000 case mark with the current total case at 35501 and 32,000 recoveries. The active cases as at 31st July was 3223.
