End of term assessment (Exams) modalities for JHS2 ahead of October 5th School Reopening
The Heads of Basic Schools (CoHBS) has taken critical decisions on End of term assessment (Exams) modalities for JHS2 ahead of October 5th School Reopening. The president of Ghana, H.E. Nana Akufo-Addo announced that schools would reopen for JHS2 and SHS 2 students on October 5th 2020.
The decisions arrived by the Headteachers were aimed at putting in place the needed measures JHS 2 students resume on 5th October 2020. Schools once opened will be in session until 14th December 2020. The schools would be required to maintain the protocols laid down for the JHS 3 before and during their BECE which ended on 18th September 2020.
Other fallouts from the said meeting showed that Capitation Grant was been processed for release as soon as possible to the various.
In recent times, the GES has kicked against parents paying for exams in public schools. This decision negatively impacted school assessment in the 3rd term of the 2018/2019 academic year; it saw teachers writing exams on chalkboards.
However, the Heads of Basic Schools are taking proactive steps to ensure the mode of assessment for JHS2 students are agreed on and the necessary funding is sought to ensure smooth completion of the term should school reopen for academic work on October 5th 3020.
At the recent meeting of COHBS, they agreed that the various district exams Committee should plan the exam modalities to ensure there is an assessment is carried out before school vacation on 14the December 2020 for JHS2 students. Equipment are also to be procured for the MMDED to print exam questions for students for schools within their jurisdiction.
In a related development, all Heads are to compile a list of subject teachers at the school level besides a list of JHS 2 students and submit these to the MMDDE under which the schools are located for planning and decision making. The government and all stakeholders are preparing for the return of students into safe school environments. Fumigation of Schools and Supply of PPE to Schools are on-going to make sure every teacher, student, and headteachers is safe when school reopens October 5th, 2020.
According to His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo, Form 2 students in JHS will from October 5, 2020, operate with a class size of at least 30 and SHS 2 students with a class size of 25 until vacation on December 14, 2020.
