The GES Senior Staff Grade promotion opportunities announced by the Ghana Education Service are for only staff who meet all the criteria specified by the service.
Which Senior Grades will qualified staff be promoted to?
Grades that the GES will promote staff of the service to are all senior staff grades. They are as follows
1. Deputy Director
2. Assistant Director I
3. Assistant Director II
4. Principal Superintendent.

What will be the basic criteria for promotion to GES Senior Staff grades?
The Ghana Education Service will require applicants to take an Aptitude test.
What areas will the GES Aptitude tests for GES Senior Grade Promotion cover?
The GES Aptitude tests will include the following critical subcategories or areas.
1. Knowledge of the ministry and the GES.
2. School/classroom management
3. Theories of learning, assessing, and evaluation.
4. Contemporary issues in education.
5. Current and general knowledge
6. Education administration and management ( for only qualified applicants applying for the rank of Deputy Director.
According to The Director-General of the GES, Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa “Officers who get promoted to deputy directorship shall be expected to attend face-to-face interviews, if they desire to become heads of schools or any other position that may require interviewing”.
The Aptitude test is part of the revised promotion processes, which aim at improving efficiency and effectiveness.
Thus at the end of the Aptitude tests, the service expects that it will do the right things, the right way to ensure the two-tier qualities of Efficiency and effectiveness are achieved.
The test will be administered to all staff of the Ghana Education Service who want to be promoted this to senior positions (Principal Superintendent to Deputy Director)
The new approach to determining which applicants due for promotion actually get promoted has been agreed on after extensive deliberations and consultations with key stakeholders. It has also been approved by the GES Council and meets the quality test of the Public Service Commission (PSC) regulations.
