Per the new fee schedule, regular students pursuing the Institute’s Bachelor in Communication Studies programme will now have to pay GHC 2,520.00 whilst those pursuing a Diploma in Communication Studies (Regular and Weekend) will have to pay GHC 2,310.00 as academic fees.
For level 300 Top-up fresh students (Weekend), their new academic fee is now GHC 3,100 whereas their colleagues in level 400 will have to pay GHC 2,730.00
The fee for first-year Diploma in Communication Studies (evening) students is now GHC 2,660.00 whilst their colleagues in the Weekend class will pay GHC 2,900.00
The increase in academic fees at the Ghana Institute of Journalism comes at a time when tertiary students have appealed to the government to consider reducing academic fees by at least 30% for only the 2020/2021 academic year following the economic impact the coronavirus pandemic has had on individuals.
Already, some students of the Institute have lamented the upward review and have called on the government to intervene.
“We know what is happening in the country right now. Parents have lost their jobs because of the coronavirus and for the school to increase school fees at this time, I think it is very unfair,” one student who spoke on the plea of anonymity told UniversNews.
Persons who have been offered admission into the school for the 2020/2021 academic have been asked to confirm their acceptance of the offer by payment of the new fees by Sunday, 13th September 2020.
Continuing students have also been asked to commence their academic registration from Monday, 14th September 2020 to Friday 16th October 2020.
