SHS students to get tablets loaded with course materials – Bawumia
The government as part of efforts to improve teaching and learning is set to distribute tablets loaded with course materials to Senior High Schools (SHSs) students, the Vice-President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia announced on Tuesday.
Speaking at Ghana’s digitization drive under the theme “Transforming an economy through digitization: The Ghana story,” held at Ashesi University, Mr Mahamadu said the move is also to digitalize the country’s economy.
He indicated that the Ministry of Education (MoE) under the auspices of the central government is in consultations with publishers of the new curriculum textbooks to preload all the tablets with all the required textbooks for students.
“Our next goal is to provide tablets to the Senior High School (SHS) students and we have started working with publishers of the textbooks to preload all the tablets with required textbooks,” the Vice-President told Ghanaians.
President Akufo-Addo right-hand man further commended the government for providing teachers with new laptops to help them in the preparation of their lesson notes, an activity he said when done in notebooks is time-consuming.
“We have provided 350,000 teachers with laptops under the “One teacher, One laptop policy.” For teachers, the writing of lesson notes into notebooks apart from being stressful is a time-consuming activity,” Bawumia stated at the event.
The Vice-President of the Republic of Ghana added that “with the curriculum materials already installed on the laptops, the lesson notes can be downloaded onto the laptop to end the burdensome task of writing lesson notes.”
