5 Things You Can Do While Waiting for Your WASSCE and BECE Results
In this article, I will share with you some tried and tested suggestions you can put into action while waiting for your WASSCE and BECE Results. It is not uncommon to be anxious about your exams result and what it is likely to be after the exams are over. If you’re wondering how to best spend your free time WASSCE and BECE exams, please don’t go crazy from anticipation. Instead, make very good use of the waiting period.
#1. Read up about the courses you’re interested in
Whether you sat for the WASSCE or BECE or and examination, use the result waiting period to find out more about the programme and its related courses you intend to study at the next level of your education.
This would help you decide whether to choose a course or not. For the WASSCE graduates getting ready to enter the tertiary institution, this activity can help you in your pre-university/college preparation.

#2. Start researching colleges/universities
For WASSCE graduates waiting for their results, you can use the waiting time to scout for institutions you intend to attend and learn more about them in terms of their history, infrastructure, campus life, courses and other vital information.
To do this you can for instance
- List down the types of industries or fields that you may be interested in. For example, education, engineering, medicine, business.
- Look online for universities or colleges and check their sites for the kind of information you need.
- Shortlist the programmes and find out about the various career paths they offer you should you complete the programme in future. This will help you narrow your choices when the time comes to select programmes you want to study when applying for admission.
By researching early, you’ll be able to decide on which institution to enrol in as soon as you’ve received your results. This way, you won’t miss an intake.
#3. Get opinions from experienced family and friends
Get connected with friends and family with in-depth knowledge to help you with your investigations on the various universities or colleges you are interested in. You can call or WhatsApp to ask for clarification. Example ask for the best university that trains say, medical doctors. Why you should pass through the college of education to become a teacher in Ghana rather than go straight to the university. Answers you get will help make the right choice and avoid self-inflicted mistakes.
You can also ask questions such as
- Which programme did you enrol in at the university, and why?
- What did you think about the course- was it a good one and why?
- What is the university like?
- What are the new things I might see at the tertiary level, and how do I cope with them?
- How are the lecturers like and what is the teaching method used?
- Are educators in tertiary institutions experienced and helpful?
- What facilities do they have, scholarships etc?

#4. Get organised and read new relevant materials
De-cluttering your desk and room is always a great idea after your WASSCE examination. This is because you are about to move into a new chapter in your life especially if you’re planning to enrol in a university or college when the WASSCE results are released.
Clear your learning area of old textbooks and keep them safe. Get new storybooks as well as books on career guidance, self-development books, motivational books and the like to read.
Make sure you also allocate a folder for all your certificates and important documents you will need together in a safe place. This way, you won’t have to scramble around looking for them when you’re ready to register.
#5 stay positive and engage in some useful activities
Keep a positive mindset, don’t be too anxious, use your leisure time profitably by engaging in sporting activities if you can. You can also watch motivational movies that add some value to your life. For some, getting a part-time or full-time job helps. Use the time to learn some skills such as graphic designing, website designing, piano playing and baking pastries. Do not form a group of useless guys and girls just visiting friends and having fun. Runaway from love relationships and sex and sexual activities and stay focused.
I believe the five points discussed in this write up would go a long way to shape your focus and make your WASSCE results waiting time an enjoyable one.
