President William Ruto of Kenya has addressed the issue of same-sex relationships, reiterating his government’s commitment to upholding the definitions of marriage and sexuality as set down in the country’s 2010 Constitution. Kenyans will respect all rights to the extent that they are legal, he added, praising the constitution as one of the most progressive texts for its breadth in terms of the rights of people as stated in it.
But he emphasized to a German broadcaster earlier this week that marriage is defined and perceived differently in his nation than in Germany. Men marrying women is the only context in which marriage is understood in Kenya, and this is reflected in and guaranteed by our constitution. When asked about a new anti-same-sex law passed in neighboring Uganda, he emphasized:
“That (same-sex marriage) can happen elsewhere; we have no issue with individuals celebrating their issues in America and other countries; that is their option.”We cannot tell the Germans, the French, the Americans, or the Ugandans what they can and cannot do with their bodies, and we have taken a position in Kenya based on our Constitution and the laws as they currently stand. That, he emphasized, is up to the people of that nation, whereas the United States has “taken a position that is informed by our culture, our tradition, our Constitution, and our laws.”
Ghanaians Reaction online
Blue pen: God bless and protect Ruto and all principled men and women. Shame on sell-outs and whores! Shame on internationdriftersars. Ghana, beyond aid, turned to the NPP government crawling on their bellies for filthy, stinking, disgusting homosexual true coins. Talk is cheap, indeed.
Djamgbe: These are leaders with balls, unlike the clown we have here in Ghana as president. How can a leader, knowing very well that his people don’t want any trumu trumu in their midst, ignore that just because he wants to be America’s “friend”?
Addo: Fellow Ghanaians, now you can all see why God himself has placed a curse on that HOMOSEXUAL CATHEDRAL being built by STUPID AKUFFO ADDO! the. That ugly chimpanzee only managed to dig a hole when the Mighty Lord struck him with his curse. Such a foolish old dog Akuffo Addo is! His legacy and that of the coming generation will all vanish like morning dew.
Jack D: But in Ghana, our old baboon thinks we are all baboons like him, so it will be ok for male baboons to marry other male baboons. I am emigrating to Kenya until this clueless old baboon leaves our political scene.
