BREAKING: NDC Petitions CID, IGP Over Bryan Acheampong’s Comments- See Details
In response to Abetifi MP Bryan Acheampong’s remark that he “is not giving over power to the NDC,” the National Democratic Congress (NDC), led by its Director of Legal Directorate, Abraham Amaliba, has filed a lawsuit with the Criminal Investigation Department and the Inspector General of Police.
Petitioners from the National Democratic Coalition (NDC) want the Minister of Food and Agriculture arrested and brought to justice for making “reckless, dangerous, inflammatory, and unparliamentary comments.” As the minister made it clear to party delegates on Saturday that the present NPP will not cede power to the NDC, this announcement was made.
The party claims that a literal reading of Mr. Acheampong’s comments reveals an NPP plot to violently overthrow the 2024 election results against the will of the Ghanaian people. As an example of why the police need to intervene, they cite the recent arrest of the NDC Suame Constituency Organiser and remark on how quickly others who were suspected of being involved in the disruptions at the recently concluded National Youth Congress of the NDC were apprehended.
Details of the petition can be seen below.
The Minister of Agriculture and former Minister of State in Charge of National Security, Mr. Acheampong, told party members on Saturday, March 8, 2023, during a health march in Mpraeso in the Eastern Region, that the NDC party will “collapse.”
The NDC “dares to employ threats, violence, and folly in the 2024 election,” he said, adding, “We will show them that we have the men.” The men are here.”
Mr. Bryan went on to say, “It would never happen that we, the NPP, will stand on a platform to hand over power to the NDC.”It’s impossible! Whatever it takes, we will keep the NPP in power. He thinks the NPP will benefit from the government’s efforts to improve the economy. Now that things are shifting, the economy will bounce back again. I am telling you that we will come over that curve and win the 2024 elections handily.
During the same ceremony, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia made fun of former President John Mahama by saying that the only thing he was famous for were the dumsor and guinea fowls that escaped under the Savanna Development Authority (SADA) project and flew to neighboring Burkina Faso.
He claims that in all of Mr. Mahama’s years in office, he has not accomplished anything truly revolutionary. He asked the gathering, “Do you know that John Mahama has been in politics his whole adult life—over 30 years?” before continuing, “He has been an assemblyman, deputy minister, minister, then Vice President, and then President.”
“But you can’t name a single game-changing policy he’s enacted?” he pressed. Don’t bother naming them all; there are none. We have only Dumsor and Guinea fowl, but thanks to the NPP, we have mobile money interoperability, one district, one factory, digital addresses, free public secondary education, and a zongo constituency fund.”
