The Daily Star claims that as many as 35 people have been killed and many more are missing after a temple collapsed in India. After a floor covering step-wells unexpectedly collapsed, dumping scared worshippers into the deep water below, the army rushed to scour the terrible scene for survivors.
A senior police officer reported that photos taken at the scene in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, showed victims floating in murky water.
A representative from a nearby hospital reported that 21 people had been taken there, and three of them had already succumbed to their injuries. Several patients were treated for broken bones and other injuries to their limbs.
According to the Times of India, the majority of the victims were young girls and boys.
Local news outlets reported that 24 people, including a baby of about 1.5 years of age, were still missing as military officials searched the area with floodlights powered by generators.
When the tragedy occurred, about 50 people were gathering at the Shri Beleshwar Mahadev Jhulelal temple to celebrate the Hindu holiday of Ram Navami.
It has been said that the tiles atop a metal grille were what fell way above the stepwell, revealing some 25 feet of water below.
While family members of the victims gathered at the scene in grief, police officers set up a perimeter. “It was tough to take people out since there was a lot of water,” one rescuer from the National Disaster Response Force stated. We resorted to ropes, ladders, and finally diving with oxygen tanks.
According to a top police official, the number of fatalities is certain to climb. After dark, when no more remains were seen, divers entered the well and filmed the murky water with underwater cameras, they reported. The pictures they gave back sent chills down my spine. “I am extremely saddened by the tragedy in Indore,” tweeted Indian President Narendra Modi. I just got a status report from Chief Minister Chouhan Shivraj Ji. The state government is moving quickly to coordinate relief efforts.

Dahter: All of the impacted people and their families are in my thoughts and prayers.
Hunda: God is leaving the world and asking us to come back to him. It happened again at another festival. Were they worshipping well on top? Hmm, a warning from God Almighty
