“From September 2020, our plan is to give out over 4,000 Free laptops to students. The John Dumelo Foundation and I will distribute over 4,000 laptops to students in the constituency. I believe in quality education. I am convinced that this gesture will improve access to online learning tertiary students,”
During the lockdown after the coronavirus hit Ghana, many tertiary institutions moved their lectures online, which required students to have access to computers connected to the internet. The lack of these essential necessities to access online tuition and write final exams impacted many students negatively.
In some instances, students had to hire such gadgets or pair with their colleagues to use the same computer. Data availability further worsened the case of many.
Some constituents Edulearnweb.com spoke with suggested that the laptops should be distributed to students who do not have and those who actually need it.
The decision by the Parliamentary Candidate on the ticket of the NDC for Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, John Dumelo to partner with the John Dumelo Foundation to reach out to 4000 students is a piece of welcome news for many students in the constituency.
However, the modalities for the distribution are yet to be made known to the teeming youth in one of Ghana’s biggest education hub.
The NDC parliamentary candidate believes the gesture will help students realise their dreams of what constitutes quality education.
